i’d like to be able to lower the piano roll preview note volume. I work at -18dB (working with hardware equipment) and while I can lower the voice to -18db, I can’t with the piano roll. These means that the piano roll notes are incredibly loud compared to the rest.

While track volume does not affect the piano sound, the master gain slider in the settings panel does. I agree the selected track’s volume knob should affect this, but perhaps this could offer a temporary workaround:
oh yes totally ! I missed the Master gain. To just leave the track volume at unity and use this global volume instead. Done. thx Claire
