Whoop, my 1st Solo Asterian cover, The Legend Prince …
Hope you enjoy!
Interesting attempt. I do kinda prefer Prince’s original vocal, to be honest. But who knew Asterian could offer this much competition. The delay and the distortion helps.
I just did a song in which I also tried to go for early prince vibes. Give Asterian’s falsetto a try, but that doesn’t quite cut it. I did manage to get him to do some nice ‘prince-like’ screams, though. More or less successfully.
Well the end of Purple Rain is pure Legend Head Voice Heaven
I think Asterian holds up nice - from 4:28+
The Prince scream at 3:28 is actually also all Asterian
But who can compare to Prince, - Nothing Compares 2 U:)
All in all a great song to experiment with Asterian I thought
Great to hear you like!
It is fun stuff to experiment with. And yes, I had noticed that. That came out nice. I did make a few of these screams/whoops by first midi-analyzing some actual prince ones and trying to recreate it that way. He goes pretty high. I had a mix of Kevin, Ast and Sol sing it, drew the lines to match more closely, mixed it together, put some valve-emulated distortion on it and some delay. Sorta close. (I posted a link in another thread here, in case you are curious).
I never listened to vocals quite as closely as since I started tinkering with Synth V.
Is very cool, and you did a fantastic job with the voice. As a constructive critizism, I would just say that is a bit difficult to understand the lyrics due to the heavy distorsion and delay. Maybe a less effected version would have the benefit of improved understability, and that could be good even if it is at the cost of deviating from the original voice tone.
Which song ?, is it your Purpose Undefined at 0:09 and 2.22+
Your break onward must have a Prince funk approval btw - nice
Personally I think the voice is plenty intelligible
But yes, the delay could have been ducked better
While I worked on it I already was thinking about that
In the end I just went for focusing more on getting to know Asterian, eye-on-the-ball
When I go for my Grammy I will focus on the mix:)
Constructive criticism or even criticism is always welcome, I’ll keep it in mind next time
Criticism keeps you sharp(er-UR) - I’m already sharp of course - duh:)
Great you like!
Yep, that one. And those screams, yes. Not quite Prince, of course. But maybe that is a good thing, given that ‘Drake/Weekend’ shidizzle.
And not sure if Prince would have approved. He set the bar quite high and was pretty ruthless in his criticism. Not even Rick James could cross it. But thanks.
Wow… Can Asterian sound so deep and excited? Great mixing work with the voice!! Glad I discovered this gem!
Creativity first… as you said
Yup, Thanks to Solaria …
The response of Asterian is so different, but is much more flexible then I thought
I understand Asterian a lot better because of Solaria
Great you enjoy this one as well!
There’s something about that! Synth V never ceases to amaze me. Thumbs up
Very nice and for me to think about how the amazing Drive Asteriana in the position of this song to convert to deeper tones a then to learn it from him. When I write a song in a rock spirit for me in the future. It wants to have your musician sense of ant work.
Thank You TomNice, great you enjoy!
That’s a great compliment gauzde, Thank You!
So I took the liberty of putting my blues, which I played and sang on the guitar in my youth, on this forum. So I taught the blues to Asterian, unfortunately without knowing the capabilities of Asterian, which he used in your song. So hopefully next time it will be better.
Hi gauzde
I find honesty in creation much more important then quality anyway
Quality you can learn, honesty you have (And no that’s not by Mark Twain:)
I hear both, so
I actually like your own voice version a lot, you could do without Synth V!?!
I’m not an expert in this genre, but it sounds much a-ok to me, a lot of character
Nice work, both versions!
I like your other songs as well btw!
I don’t understand the words, but I like to believe Leonard Cohen would smile
And who would argue with Leonard:)
Thanks for your lovely feedback…
