SYSTEM DETAILS
Synthesizer-V Plugin: 9 & 1.10.0b.1 | Logic Pro: 10.7.9 (and earlier) | Mac Monterey & Ventura 13.5 (crash happening under Rosetta too)
BRIEF OVERVIEW
The Synthesizer-V plugin crashes Logic when the user attempts to record MIDI from the DAW track onto the Synthesizer-V track, BUT ONLY if a voice is selected on the Synthesizer-V track. Synth-V does not appear to crash if the track inside the plugin is left as ‘No Default Voice’
To clarify please see this image. The image shows Synth-V loaded onto a track within Logic. The Logic project is playing, and Synth V is recording the MIDI from the Logic track, into the plugin.
To Recreate:
- Add the Synth-V plugin to a Logic track
- Add MIDI to the same Logic track
- Create a new track within the Synthesizer-V plugin
- Hit ‘play’ in Logic, & record in the Synthesizer-V plugin
For me the crash usually happens within 10-30 seconds
IMPORTANT NOTES
I have done everything possible to isolate the cause of the issue and ensure it’s an issue with Synthesizer-V. Please note that:
-
Crashes are occurring even when Synth-V is literally the ONLY 3rd party plugin on the entire system
-
Crashes are occurring even when all 3rd party peripherals are disconnected (eg sample drives, audio interfaces)
-
I tested with a few voices, mainly Kevin & Solaria, and all caused crashes. When recording, the user only ever hears the default sound from Synth-V, but regardless of this, something additional seems to be happening in the background that causes a crash when the plugin’s track uses a voice.
-
This was happening before I installed the beta. I hoped the beta may resolve the issue, but it hasn’t. I have also performed a full uninstall/reinstall.

Here is a crashlog
FULL BUG DESCRIPTION
It is possible to place MIDI on a track within the D.A.W. and record it into Synth-V. I have found this to be very stable, up until about May 2023 and then I started experiencing crashes.
Despite getting a new computer and reinstalling everything from scratch (including the OS, Logic and plugins) this is still occurring. After extensive testing which has involved disabling all 3rd party plugins and unplugging all 3rd party peripherals (except my monitor), I have discovered that I can get Synth-V to crash Logic 100% of the time if I try to record MIDI in when a voice selected.
If the voice is left blank, Synth-V does not appear to crash Logic. You can see the crash happening in Thread 48 of the crashlog.
I can replicate this issue 100% of the time. It usually takes Synth-V 10+ seconds to crash. This can be replicated in a very. very simple project that only consists of a stock piano plugin and Sythesizer-V.
TEMPORARY WORKAROUND & ISSUES WITH WORKAROUND & FURTHER NOTES
Now that the cause is apparent, a temporary workaround could be to leave the Synth-V track as its default ‘(No Default Voice)’. However, if the user has already selected a voice, they cannot revert to that option.
It should be noted that once the MIDI is recorded in, you can change the voice and Synth-V will play it back without crashing (I only tested this a handful of times, but it appears to be the case).
